Lesson 6: Slow down life

It's crazy. I'm writing my last blog post. Matter of fact, y'all are also writing your last blog post. As we collectively close the semester off, I would firstly like to congratulate everyone for making it.  It seemed like August was yesterday. Syllabus week, all those practices for sports, after-school activities, Subbie-Buddy events, and Homecoming. So much happened over this semester, yet I can't remember a specific detail about any of it.   I wish I slowed down and looked around. It's a pretty broad and overused lesson and quote that everyone says, but I really mean it this time. I wish I paused and thought about my experiences, whether embarrassing or exciting. Just to look around be present in the moment instead. This semester was valuable. I learned a lot, y'all did too. However, it's not the end. We have not only a semester ahead of us, but our whole lives! If you're feeling sad or depressed from the fact that we're halfway done with school, ...

Lesson #5: keep your mouth shut!

Image
This is a picture of me drifting in my Toyota Camry.   Hey guys, Harsh back at it again with another lesson and today I'll be explaining how I learned that sometimes its better to say nothing at all. (Also this story may or may not be real if you know what I mean). After one lovely night on the road I came back home to my family with some great news. I rushed to tell my dad that I was able to hit some really sick drifts in our families toyota camry. I was so proud of my new skill but my dad didn't seem as happy as I was. to put it lightly, he "grounded my ass" for a month. Ever since that day I realized that if i just don't say anything, the problem simply won't happen. Sometimes, it's best to keep things to yourself. Don't put your life out there for everyone to see.

Lesson #4: Look through your storage room

Today I decided to go through my storage. We have it tucked away in the basement. We have numerous cardboard boxes stacked on containers. We have numerous black cables, opaque plastic containers, kitchenware, old brown furniture, etc. However, a bright green plastic box sitting lazily on the top shelf of a shelf caught my attention. The green-ness of the box was especially apparent due to the brown dull background of the storage section of our basement. What was in a box? I curiously opened the container, and it was a drone. Not any drone though, this drone was sick. Four blades, looked stealthy, had a sick camera feature and a VR mode where you can attack it to your phone. I never remembered having one, but I immediately wanted to try it out. I gotta say, for the next few hours, I had so much fun with the drone. I flew across my neighborhood while wearing the VR set attached to my phone. It was like seeing a movie in front of my eyes. It took some time to get used to, but damn I ...

Lesson #3: It takes bad days to make good days

I've lived by this lesson for quite sometime. It's not something I learned last week, but I thought that it would be beneficial and valuable for y'all as we head into finals and more stressful times.  I am clueless as to how I came by this lesson. Was it some motivational quote from a YT or Instagram? Did I have a magnificent epiphany one random night? Was it a bit of both? I have no clue, but this lesson has changed my mindset and perspective on life in such an impactful way.  The lesson is very straight-forward, and I wish that everyone who is reading this takes a few minutes to just think about the lesson. It takes bad days to make good days. That's it, that is the lesson. Just think about it for a few minutes. Stare off into the distance and just think about your past experiences, your past challenges that you overcame, all the moments where you felt the world was going to end. That moment where you felt anxious about a test, or nervous about asking someone to dance...

Lesson #2: Don't be Afraid to Ask for Help.

My parents host a lot of get-togethers with our friends, relatives, and family-friends. We host these events on the weekends, usually on Friday and Saturdays. For the larger get-togethers, guests would start arriving at 2 PM and would leave at midnight or even after. Overall, it's just a fun time. The only problem with these parties that we have is that I don't have many cousins and family-friends my age that live in Champaign. They all live up in Chicago and Michigan and India. However, I have a few younger family-friends that are fun to mess with. They're names are Harsh Patel and Dev Patel, in 7th grade and 4th grade respectively. It may surprise you that I have a cousin named Harsh Patel, but he does exist. Harsh and Dev are all about fun, but to a certain extent they rely on me to manage the fun because of their younger age. They're parents are also more strict and stern because of their age. Harsh and Dev have never been on top of the roof of a house. Matter of f...

Lesson #1: How to Properly Lie

I love driving. Getting your driver's license is, in my opinion, the best thing that a teenager can receive. You no longer have to nag your parents to take you to your friend's house. You no longer have to wait for your parents to drive you to track practice. You no longer have to ask your parents to pick you up at midnight from a friend's house.  Driving as a teen is something else. You're young, wild, and free. You think that nothing can stop you. You hop in the car, set aux, roll the windows down, and go. I don't think about the consequences of speeding down Curtis at night or damaging the longevity of my car through my inefficient braking. Mind you, I'm a good driver. If you are my passenger, I promise you that you will reach your destination safely, whether I'm driving safely or not.  However, recently, I've damaged the car twice in a span of two-three weeks. The first incident was at night with my friends where I drove into a ditch out in the coun...
